About Amelia Derk

Hello! My name is Amelia and I am a 16-year old high school student from the Ottawa area. I enjoy the long range target shooting sport called F-Class. We compete at shooting a 5″ bullseye at 1000 yards (900 meters) away. I enjoy the extreme challenge of the sport. My dad built me an extremely accurate rifle. Now my job is to read wind and mirage to accurately predict where to aim to keep that bullet in the 5″ bullseye.

Since only starting in September 2024, I’ve participated in four competitions.  My first competition was with the ORA at Milcun Range in September 2024.  In 2025, I competed in three major competitions at various military ranges in Ontario and New Brunswick.

After finishing the Canadian Nationals in July 2025, I was asked by the Canadian F-Open team captain if I wanted to practice with the team the following day. I had a lot of fun with them and they saw some potential in me. They asked me to join the Canadian F-Open Team to compete at the 2026 F-Class World Championships in Bisley, England.  I will be one of only two female team shooters and the only team member under 25 years of age.

In August 2025, I made history by becoming the first female and youngest person ever to win the Ontario F-Class Lieutenant Governor’s Championship (Long Range Aggregate). Check out the video my dad made to capture the momentous occasion:

While I don’t personally own any firearms, I have my minors PAL (Possession and Acquisition License; i.e., firearms license) and I work at the Stittsville Shooting Range.  I am an Honour Roll and Silver Medal student who also enjoys basketball, wrestling, and playing piano.

I’m really excited for my first opportunity to represent Canada and to compete internationally!  All the money raised will go towards helping me cover costs associated with my participation at the F-Class World Championships, not the team or my family accompanying me.
